Treat every body fluid like it might be infectious
The idea behind the cue
Standard precautions are used for all patients, regardless of diagnosis or suspected infection status. They include hand hygiene, appropriate PPE based on anticipated exposure, safe injection and sharps practices, respiratory hygiene, and environmental cleaning. The goal is to assume infectious risk may be present in blood, body fluids, nonintact skin, and mucous membranes.
